Ans.23: It is obligatory on the woman when in the house and with her maharim (those she cannot marry such as her sons, fathers, paternal and maternal uncles, brothers, nephews) to wear something which is loose all the while she can uncover her face, hands, arms and feet in front of them. However, if she is in the presence of non-maharim, she shouldn’t uncover any part of her body, including her face. She should wear a jilbab also known as abaya which covers her from her head to her feet. This garment should have no adornment on it as it would draw men’s attention on her and this is not permissible. So the outer garment should be free of any decoration at all.
