Ans.27: First of all, I pray Allaah reunites you both upon good. Secondly, I advise you to visit him if you are able to. If you are unable to, then I advise him to try and visit you in America even if it’s just a visit. If neither of you can, then I advise you to divorce so that it doesn’t harm either of you. I advise you to appoint someone in Algeria who can present your case to the courts there - and there is no sin upon you; although it is better for your husband to seek the divorce instead of you. It is not permissible for him to request anything back from your dowry (mahr) because he is the reason for this divorce.
