Giving Zakat al Fitr after Ramadhaan
Qn8: If a father hasn’t distributed the Zakat-al-Fitr of Ramadhaan for his wife and children in the days before and during 'Eid, is it permissible for him to do so later after 'Eid, or is it a sin?
Ans.8: It is obligatory for the head of the household to give out the Zakat-al-Fitr at the end of Ramadhaan before the day of 'Eid and this can be done even a couple of days before 'Eid. However if he delays it, then this comes under two situations:
1) If the person is forgetful or sick, then he can give it after 'Eid and there is no problem with this.
2) If the person delays it on purpose, intentionally or out of laziness, then it is obligatory upon him to still give it out but it is no longer called Zakat-al-Fitr but instead Sadaqah (charity) and this person is sinful. If we know someone like this, then we should give the sadaqah on their behalf whether they like it or not.
